Okay, so this is a little post for anyone who has ever thought about being an entrepreneur. Or anyone who's just minutely interested in learning what entrepreneurship is all about. There's an even that happens every weekend in multiple cities that YOU should definitely attend. I learned more this past weekend about entrepreneurship then in the rest of my entrepreneur career.

Startup Weekend

Start up weekend is basically a three day experience where you basically get to build a startup with the help of mentors and entrepreneurs and at the end pitch your idea in a shark-tank style.

This is taken from the Startup Weekend Website:

Learn, Network, Startup

"In just 54 hours, you will experience the highs, lows, fun, and pressure that make up life at a startup. As you learn how to create a real company, you'll meet the very best mentors, investors, cofounders, and sponsors who are ready to help you get started. Your community is here to help you — find an event today!"

I loved it so much. I pitched an idea on the first night and I hadn't even planned on doing it, but I did it anyway and two other awesome teens joined my team and we created Camp Starter- a website designed to enable teens to lead their own summer camp. (You can check out our twitter here). We did crazy things like design a website in one day, create a logo that took 5+ hours to get right, get a crash course in twitter strategy, and get interviewed by the news.

Here's a clip from the local news:

Our team won the Going the Distance award as well as Excellence in MVP Design. MVP does not stand for Most Valued Player, but if you want to know what it means... I guess you'll just have to find a Startup Weekend near you!!

Needless to say, I'm exhausted. But I learned an incredible amount of skills, like collaboration, taking advice from mentors, how to pitch, and GAH IT WAS JUST SO MUCH FUN AND THERE WAS SO MUCH FOOD. If you're not convinced yet, here's a beautiful video about Startup Weekend!

I truly encourage you to check out the Startup Weekend website and see if there's an event near you- trust me, it's worth it. It's SO MUCH FUN!!
