My mom and I have started going to yoga together.
I'll be honest: my favorite part is the 15 minute rest at the end where they dim the lights and encourage you to rest your relaxed and stretched out body and close your eyes and focus on nothing but breathing.

The stretches can feel uncomfortable, the strength training can feel brutal.

But.

The yoga instructor always says one thing that's incredibly beautiful:

In the places where you're uncomfortable, the stretch hurts a bit, you're struggling to balance... Those are the places where you grow.

In the places where your arms are like flimsy rubber bands and your legs aren't much stronger... Those are the places where you are strengthened.

Where you might fall, or you might just find yourself lasting a little longer than you thought you could.

If you stick with what feels good and easy, you'll stay there. Small and weak. No growth. No strength.

Are any of you in the place of growth right now?

It feels like I am. It's the place that's uncomfortably hard: balancing 19 college credits and way too many extracurriculars and oh yeah trying to figure out where the heck I'll be living and studying for the next four years. It's uncertain: I might fall flat on my face. No joke.

It's the uncertainty of if I'll fall or if I'll fly that's the most uncomfortable.

But.

This is where I'll grow.

This is where I'll get stronger.

This isn't easy, but no one ever said growing and strengthening were.

  1. Haha yes! Best bit of yoga is the end. You are so right though, often those things that make us so uncomfortable and take us out of our comfort zone are what really cause us to grow.
I have 100% found that to be true in my own life.
